Nereaga\'s 9g NanoWave
« on: March 08, 2009, 02:12:08 PM »
Ok so I set up the nano tank yesterday.  The previous owner had it running for about 6 months prior to me getting it yesterday.  He removed everything into a bucket and left about an ich or so of water covering the sandbed.  I got it all set up and running and tested the tank this morning.  All is well, very low NitrAtes aswell, about 1-2Mg/L.

So after testing this morning I ran out a got 4 snails and Nemo!  That is what the girlfriend wanted, he/she is about an inch long or so, very small guy.  They had a pair of percs at the store for $30, the male was about 1/2\'\' and the female was 1\'\'.  I passed on the pair, didn\'t want to go too heavy of a bioload from the start.

NanoWave:

Rear compartment with refugium light:

Refugium w/ chaetomorpha:

Skimmer and filter pad:

Return pump and bio-media:

Lighting is 2-24w PC bulbs, a 6400K and an actinic.  Also has 3 LEDs:

All in all I am really diggin the nano tank!  It is awesome.  We will see how hot it gets in the summer, but right now I don\'t even have a heater running on it.  It stays stable at about 79-80F.  Might have to look into some sort of small computer fan to disperse some heat.... Mod time! :)

I will post up some pics of the clown then

Thanks guys!  This is actually in the babies room now, baby should be here in 2 months.  Trying to get the little one addicted early!  Is that wrong? lololol

Ok well, I need to figure something out to control heat.  I came home tonight and after the lights being on for 12hr and the tank temp was up to 83F.  It started at 80F today.  I\'m going to see if leaving the feeding lid open on the front helps any.  Then I can try cracking open the rear compartment door.

Worse case senario, I\'ll have to rig a small fan blowing in through the slot at the lights...

Any ideas?

I have found a company that sells a fan kit for this tank, its 2 fans that get mounted in with the PC\'s, they are getting like $45+SH for the kit.  I will probably pick it up before the spring comes...

Here is the only fish in the tank, so far, might add a yellow watchman goby later...

I\'m not sure exactly what this fan assembly is, but if it\'s just a small fan and power supply, $45 is kind of step IMO. Have you thought about just buying a small computer type fan and a small 12v power supply? You can pick that stuff up at radio shack for a few dollars, or order then through Mouser / Digikey.

Brad I would definitly try to make some slots across the canopy above the lights to release the heat , I can garuntee it will make a diffrence in temp.. Im not understanding where the fans will be mounted , Is there a place where you can mount them so there acting as an exhaust for the heat built up from the lights ?

Larry,

The fans go inside with the PC\'s and forsce the hot air out through the side slots of the lid.

I hear you Larry.  Seems like they covered all the other things but forgot about the heat issue, oh well a simple fix for under $50.  I will be getting it once I get some extra cash...
